Movie Dialogues

Apart from sayings and quotes from famous personalities, here are some of my favorite dialogues and one-liners from the realm of movies, TV series’ and songs –

Alex ‘Hitch’ Hitchens: Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.”

– Gone With the Wind (1939)

Roy ‘Tin Cup’ MvAvoy: When a defining moment comes along, you define the moment… or the moment defines you.”

Chris Gardner: You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.”

– The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Chris Gardner: It was right then that I started thinking about Thomas Jefferson on the Declaration of Independence and the part about our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And I remember thinking how did he know to put the pursuit part in there? That maybe happiness is something that we can only pursue and maybe we can actually never have it. No matter what. How did he know that?”

– The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

“I believe that trust is more important than monogamy.” – Lyrics of the song Affirmation from Savage Garden.

John Myers: What makes a man a man? Is it his origins? The way he comes to life? I don’t think so. Its the choices he makes. Not how he starts things, but how he decides to end them.”

Oogway: There are no accidents.
Shifu: [sighs] Yes, I know. You’ve already said that twice.
Oogway: That was no accident either.
Shifu: Thrice.”

– Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Dr. Angela Noyce: I think a linear time frame is a key part of what it means to be human. If our really important choices could be sampled like a box of chocolates, then… our decisions would lose their meaning. What would be at stake?.”

– The Andromeda Strain (2008)

Cobb: Dreams feel real while we’re in them. It’s only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.”

The Dark Knight (2008)

Rocky Balboa: … The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. Its a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough your are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But if ain’t how you hard you hit. Its about how hard you can get hit and and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”

Rocky Balboa (2006)

Django: This is the way things are. You can’t change nature.
Remy: Change is nature, Dad. The part that we can influence. And it starts when we decide.
Django: [Remy turns to leave] Where are you going?
Remy: With luck, forward.”
